OUR STATE OF MIND

One in four people in England suffers from some form of mental illness, and information shows that at the moment it’s more prevalent in women, but men are more likely to take their own lives, in fact by 2016 there were 6000 suicides in the UK. and although that figure is down since the 1980’s it’s still far too high. Has the issue of mental health got worse, or is it that our detection methods have got better, I personally think it’s a combination of both. I was shocked to learn that medicins dispensed has risen from 32 millionnot so long ago to 65 million-plus today. One in four people who are suffering from a mental illness or have suffered from at some point in their lives is a huge number and makes teaching and informing others about mental health so important today.

I have personally suffered from mental health issue’s when I was younger and have tried to take my own life twice, thankfully I managed to find the help I needed and although today my life is good in general, I still have what I call my dark days, I have learnt to deal with this but there are people who can’t and to put it bluntly, they end up dead. It’s our responsibility as humans to reach out to these people and say “let me help” and find them the support that they so desperately need.
